Make rice pudding yourself in the oven: this is how it works
To bake the rice pudding, put the ingredients of our basic recipe in a casserole dish and mix everything together. Then you bake the rice pudding for about 60 minutes at 180°C instead of 30 minutes. Remember to stir the mixture once after 15-30 minutes to loosen up the rice a bit.
Towards the end of the cooking time, a milk skin usually forms on the rice pudding. If you don't like it, you can cover the rice porridge with aluminum foil. Our recipe is for about four to five people and makes about five to six servings.
Rice pudding from the microwave
We already indicated it: rice pudding is versatile. It is therefore not surprising that the dessert can be prepared in a pot, in the oven and even in the microwave. Then cook the rice pudding for 25 minutes at 300 watts, stirring from time to time.
Tips for the rice pudding recipe
Anyone can cook rice pudding? Might be. But it only becomes really tasty thanks to really good recipes. These usually differ in small but fine nuances. Instead of the pulp of a vanilla pod, some prefer to use vanilla sugar. And in addition to the pinch of salt, the others like to add some juice from an organic lemon to their rice mixture.
Those among us who are in a hurry start up Rice pudding with rice flakes. Unlike grains of rice, the flakes do not have to be boiled first, but only have to be boiled once. In terms of taste, they are in no way inferior to rice pudding.
But no matter what ingredients your rice pudding consists of, in the end it is above all the creamy consistency and the full-bodied taste that makes the memory of grandma's original recipe perfect. To ensure that nothing goes wrong when cooking and that the rice pudding tastes as good as grandma's, we have put together three tips.
What to do to prevent the rice pudding from burning?
We are all familiar with this dilemma. How can you avoid that the rice pudding is exposed to excessive heat and burns? Very simple: stir regularly. If the rice has settled on the bottom, you simply pour the remaining mass into a second pot and continue cooking it in it.
How much sweetness is healthy?
We have already revealed it: Although rice pudding contains some carbohydrates, it is low in fat and high in minerals. In addition, the rice porridge fills you up for a long time and is therefore ideal as a warm breakfast.
Too much sugar, however, ensures that the blood sugar level rises quickly and you get tired more quickly after a short-term energy boost. With fresh fruit or a little agave syrup you set sweet accents without running the risk of suffering a sugar shock.
Which toppings are best for our rice pudding recipe?
Toppings such as (store-bought) granola or nut mixes often contain a lot of sugar. Fresh fruit, coconut chips, apple-cinnamon chutney or roasted almonds, on the other hand, are ideal for refining the rice pudding. Spices such as cardamom, orange peel, the pulp of a vanilla pod or cloves are also delicious, natural flavor carriers.
Whether for breakfast, in between meals or as a dessert - rice pudding is much more than a childhood memory. With our recipe and delicious toppings of your choice, grandma's culinary secret will quickly become your favorite dessert for cold days. Enjoy your meal.
