Fechterin Anne Sauer ist Wholey Breakfast Hero

Anne Sauer

Who are you and what are you doing?

I am a foil fencer in the German national team, sports soldier in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr, 8-time German champion, medalist at Grand Prix, World Cup and European Championships and I dedicate all of my passion to fencing.

What does your typical daily routine look like?

Nothing works for me without breakfast! I prefer to start the day with a delicious açai bowl and my favorite toppings! After that I'm on the way to the first training session. In the mornings we usually have a lesson (so-called individual training) and athletics, and in the afternoon we have classical fencing training. In between I take time for regeneration, massages, physiotherapy and in the evening for a delicious dinner or a meeting with friends, going to the cinema or going to a restaurant.

What has been the best moment in your career so far?

Winning the silver medal at the Grand Prix in Los Angeles and thus reaching the top 6 in the world rankings.

What is important to you in your diet?

It is important to me that it is very balanced and healthy. Nevertheless, it has to be relatively quick and easy for me, because I want to replenish my memory quickly after strenuous training sessions and also don't want to stand in the kitchen forever. Nevertheless, it has to be very varied and of course look beautiful! :) After all, the eye eats too.

What do you usually do in your free time?

In my free time I try to spend as much time as possible with my family and friends, just as it is possible between training camps and competitions. In addition, in my free time I try to make further progress with my distance learning to become a personal trainer and to continue to educate myself in the areas of training and nutrition.

How has Corona influenced your everyday life as a competitive athlete?

Corona has made it very difficult for us to hold competitions in fencing. Due to the high number of participants and the internal organization, concepts are very difficult to implement. Competitions are the most important thing for us. They are motivation and at the same time exactly what we are working towards in order to be able to measure ourselves against the world's best every time. And if that is missing, it naturally turns everyday life upside down. Nevertheless, we have the opportunity to train relatively normally and thus work on weaknesses in detail.

"You recognize me from afar ...?"

"My always positive & friendly smile."

"If I weren't an athlete, would I be ...?"

"Athletic trainer or personal trainer for competitive athletes"
