Who are you and what are you doing?
I'm Julia, I practice luge, live in the beautiful Ore Mountains and train in Thuringia.
What does a typical day for you look like?
I usually get up shortly before 7:00 a.m., do a little yoga session and prepare a delicious breakfast. My training usually starts at 8:30 a.m. with a warm-up game - be it football, volleyball or basketball. Then you go to the weight room, on the toboggan or on the trampoline. I have a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and then I train again until around 3:30 p.m. Then I go to physiotherapy, build a sled or I work diligently on further training to become a sports manager.
In the evening you can either take advantage of the nice weather, play cards or watch a series in comfort.
What has been the best moment in your career so far?
When I realized that I had won the 2021 Sprint World Championships.
What is important to you in your diet?
I really care about my diet. Most of the time it is balanced, freshly prepared and varied. I like cooking and I like to try new things. But I also like to let my little cravings and my sweet tooth get the better of me. Of course everything in moderation ;)
What do you usually do in your free time?
I enjoy spending my free time with my family and friends. I am an outdoor person and need exercise even on days off. After a hard day of training, I like to spend my free time in a deck chair, in the sauna or with a book.
How has Corona affected your everyday life as a competitive athlete?
In spring 2020 we had a longer training break due to Corona. We were not allowed to train at the bases, so the training plan was adapted to training in our own four walls. But since around June 2020 we have hardly been restricted, at least in our everyday training routine. Of course it wasn't nice during the competition season to race without spectators, not to meet your colleagues from other countries, to generally live in a "bubble" and to wear a mask all the time - but hey, we were able to go through with our competitions and I'm incredibly happy about that.
“You can recognize me from afar…?”
My smile on my face :)
“If I wasn’t an athlete, I would be…?”
