Who are you and what do you do?
I am Pele Uibel, 19 years old and a modern pentathlete. In addition to daily training, I study law at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
What does a typical daily routine look like for you?
My daily routine can vary greatly, but a typical one would be, for example, as follows: My alarm goes off at 7:00, then I go on my bike to training. From 7:45 - 9:15 I have swimming training. Afterwards we go into the hall for fencing technique training.
At lunchtime I deal with university, either I attend a course at the law school or simply go to the library to study and compensate for absences from university due to training. From Berlin Mitte, where my university is located, we go back to the Olympic Park to end the training with a endurance run (min. 10km) and shooting practice from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If I'm not too exhausted, I like to meet up with a few friends in the evening. If not, then it's just two plates of dinner and an early bedtime to gain strength for the next day.
What was the best moment in your career so far?
The best moments of my career are definitely based on the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. The qualification phase, then the immediate training preparation and of course the three weeks in Argentina were nerve-wracking and unforgettable.
What is important to you in your diet?
I care very intensively about my diet because I always need a lot of energy, but at the same time I can't eat too much because I can get by with just a few kilos more already considerably more difficult. I used to often mix shakes and smoothies myself to get the necessary proteins, vitamins and minerals. Now I drink wholey smoothies almost every day.
What do you do in your free time?
Unfortunately, there isn't that much free time left... but I try to get out of my stressful everyday life as often as possible and meet up with friends outside of sports or the university. I like this more than hanging out at home and watching Netflix. Unless my older brother is around, then of course I take the time and watch series and films.
"You can recognize me from afar...?"
"...with a big smile and exceptionally good style ;)"
"If I wasn't an athlete, then I would be...?"
"...a completely different person. To be honest, I can't imagine life without competitive sports at the moment."
